The fellowship accelerated my transition into AI safety. I thoroughly benefited from the mentorship I received, and the program experience was optimised for us to focus on research. The visit to the London Initiative for Safe AI was a valuable experience. It was surprising how much progress we could make in a couple of months!

Sai Sasank Y is pursuing an MS in Computer Science from the Chennai Mathematical Institute and is an ex-Software Engineer at Microsoft. He participated in the Summer Research Fellowship 2024 and has continued working on the research project with his mentor.

Gayatri

Gayatri

I could focus on spending uninterrupted hours on research, which shaped my vision of the research direction I wanted to pursue in AI safety. I also benefited from exposure to the wider AIS community and interacting with some of the leading researchers in the field at the London Initiative for Safe AI.

Gayatri K is an undergraduate researcher pursuing a Bachelor's in Computer Science and Engineering from the RV College of Engineering, Bengaluru. She participated in the Summer Research Fellowship 2024.

The Summer Research Fellowship was a great opportunity to conduct meaningful research in AI Safety under the direct supervision of a mentor. The Impact Academy team was highly supportive and did a great job at every step of the process - from mentor-pairing to ensuring that all fellows had a great environment to work in.

Sneheel Sarangi is a graduate of Computer Science from NYU Abu Dhabi. He participated in the Summer Research Fellowship 2024 and has been working full-time on the research project with his mentor.

Rohan

I found this course to be super illuminating at getting me caught up to the broad areas of research in AI safety, and being able to talk to and understand the work of AIS researchers. The field has a lot of jargon and is rather unapproachable from the outside, and this course helped me feel like more of an insider in the field.

Rohan Kapoor is pursuing a PhD in Mathematics at Dartmouth College. He participated in the AI Safety Careers Course 2024.

The AISCC played a crucial role in my introduction to AI Safety. It has significantly shaped my career interests in AI Safety Research or Technical AI Governance. I'm deeply grateful to the facilitators for their ongoing support, particularly our mentor, who assisted us in every possible way—from research ideas and resources to discussions beyond the formal meetings.

Era Sarda is pursuing a BTech in Mathematics and Computing from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. She participated in the AI Safety Careers Course 2024.

The entire course was very well structured and organised, and the pre-work and readings were very nice. I really liked the way our facilitator looked at our questions/doubts, and gave very deep and thoughtful responses. Their advice for proceeding towards career paths was also very helpful - I would totally recommend this course to everyone!

Kushagra Gupta is pursuing a dual degree in Computer Science Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. He participated in the AI Safety Careers Course 2024.

The Summer Research Fellowship was a great way to recruit enthusiastic and productive early-career researchers to advance work towards solving societal-scale manipulation. The two mentees I worked with here have become integral members of the project team and we're continuing collaboration after the program. The Impact Academy team also helped streamline the recruiting and some of the project management. I would be excited to participate in future program iterations and recommend it to other mentors!

Independent Researcher, working on the evaluation of autonomous LLM agents

The Fellowship was a great avenue to find new talent to advance my work on evaluations of autonomous LLM agents. The Impact Academy team created a streamlined process, from initial selection and onboarding, to providing additional check-ins and accountability, to facilitating the final week in the UK. I've been pleased with the two bright early-career researchers, and we’re continuing to collaborate even after the program, recently being accepted to three NeurIPS workshops, and submitting to the AAMAS ’25 conference.
